This is a great product because it fulfills two needs. It heats the water very quickly.and I can make a quick cup of tea. I use it every evening, and am very satisfied with it's performance.

I used to use a Panasonic thermo pot that boils water and keeps it hot. It is convenient that you have hot water (not boiling though) when you want it except when it runs out; then you'll have to wait a while to boil a new pot. I like this product better because I always need only a cup at a time and I can have it boiled in about a minute.
There're a couple of things I don't like about it. First there's no way to stop the heating manually, unless you unplug it. This would be helpful considering the temperature sensor is a little slow and turns the thing off a little bit after boiling. Besides, sometimes you'd prefer just warm instead of boiling water. Second is the plastic lid. Although the inside is metal, after it boils, there's a trace of plastic smell. Because of this, I usually leave the lid open when I use it. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for an on/off switch and a glass lid.
As for the leaking that some people reported, I did experienced that once. In my case it's because a little piece of something got stuck under the draining piston in the middle of the bottom of the boiling chamber. If this happens to you, try open the lid, press down on the lever, use a toothpick to clear under the popped up draining piston. Hope this helps.

Bought two of these as replacements to 10 year old white Hot Shots owned by my brother and I. I was excited to get a black one. But, the new black one is not made as well as the old one. The plastic is cheaper and flimsier. The whole unit can flex. If you fill it to the top, it slowly leaks all over the counter, because the water well does not sit level with the counter. Also, the water does not get as hot as the old one. Both my brother and I agree that the original Hot Shot was better. I would like to know if the white Hot Shot that Sunbeam sells now is any different.

Great product. Very inexpensive & small enough to store on kitchen countertop. At first concerned that maybe 16 oz was not enough & was considering purchasing the aroma brand that was $59.99. It's so easy just to add more water if you need it for the Hot Shot. I chose Hot Shot as far as the storage space & you can't beat the price.

When I got the unit and filled it with water the water started leaking out before I could turn it on.
I checked the dispenser valve and found it was NOT tightly installed. I fixed it and now the unit works great.

They need better quality control on the valve assembly. I have seen where others have just sent the unit back for this same problem.

Amazon got the unit to me quicker than I expected.... So I am now enjoying my tea time.
